Kia Cee'd: Front Axle Assembly / Front Hub / Knuckle / Repair procedures

Replacement
1.
Loosen the wheel nuts slightly.
Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
2.
Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub .
Tightening torque:
88.2 ~ 107.8 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.0 ~ 79.5 lb-ft)

  
Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the rear wheel and tire (A).
3.
Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts (A), and then place the brake caliper assembly (B) with wire.
Tightening torque:
78.4 ~ 98.0 N.m (8.0 ~ 10.0 kgf.m, 57.8 ~ 72.3 lb-ft)

4.
Remove driveshaft caulking nut (A) from the front hub under applying the brake.
Tightening torque:
274.4 ~ 294.3 N.m ( 28.0 ~ 30.0 kgf.m, 202.4 ~ 217.0 lb-ft)

  
The front hub lock nut should be replaced with new ones.
After installation lock nut, stake the lock nut using a chisel and hammer as shown in the illustration below.

5.
Remove the tie rod end ball joint (C) from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-34000).
(1)
Remove the split pin (A).
(2)
Remove the castle nut (B).
(3)
Use the SST (09568-34000).
Tightening torque:
23.5 ~ 33.3N.m (2.4 ~ 3.4kgf.m, 19.4 ~ 24.6lb-ft)

  
When using SST, be sure not to damage the dust cover of lower arm ball joint.
Keep SST tied to the car because there is a risk of injury by dropping the SST during removing the lower arm ball joint.
The peripheral parts may be damaged when removing the lower arm ball joint with a general tool such as lever, so be sure to use SST.
6.
Remove the wheel speed sensor(A).
Tightening torque:
6.8 ~ 10.7 N.m (0.7 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 5.0 ~ 7.9 lb-ft)

7.
Remove the lower arm (A) from the knuckle.
Tightening torque:
98.0 ~ 117.6 N.m(10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.7 lb-ft)

8.
Disconnect the driveshaft (A) from the front hub assembly.

9.
Loosen the knuckle upper mounting bolts and then remove the knuckle assembly (A).
Tightening torque:
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

Disassembly
1.
Loosen the mounting screws (A-2ea) and then remove the brake disc (B) from the hub.
Tightening torque:
4.9 ~ 5.9 N.m (0.5 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 ~ 4.3 lb-ft)

2.
Loosen the bolts (A-4ea) and then remove the knuckle (B) from the hub (C).
Tightening torque:
78.5 ~ 98.0 N.m (8.0 ~ 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 ~ 72.3 lb-ft)

3.
Loosen the bolts (A-3ea) and then remove the dust cover (B) from the knuckle.
Tightening torque:
6.8 ~ 10.7 N.m (0.7 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 5.0 ~ 7.9 lb-ft)

4.
Reassembly in the reverse order of disassembly.
Inspection
1.
Check the hub for cracks and the splines for wear.
2.
Check the knuckle for cracks.
3.
Check the bearing for cracks or damage.
4.
Pad surface of brake assembly and sliding surface of brake disc must be free from grease, oil, rust and other foreign substances.
Installation
1.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
  
Use a SST (09581-11000) when installing the brake caliper assembly.
